Platinum Events Group: What made you want to start working in the wedding industry?

Events are markers of time — milestones and beginnings — they are the dots that connect our stories. Events are when people gather, and they represent relationships and togetherness. Because events are so special, they deserve good design that tells the story in a poignant way.  The way we celebrate is also an indicator of our style as Canadians.

We saw the need for better graphic design and originality ininvitations and stationery in the wedding industry. We decided to dedicate ourselves to inspire, excite, and raise the bar through demonstrating leadership in the industry in the form of hand-crafted stationery design and essentially, event branding. Our work gives an event its graphic identity. We innovated a new niche in invitation design, where we design and make without limitations — our designs are made through completely custom process, 100% original artwork, and our knowledge of making informs the way we design, which in turn allows us to make amazing things. We don’t repeat our designs, so that every client receives an original piece made for them. And our body of work celebrates the wedding industry, demonstrating that there is so much value behind goods designed with excellence and passion.

Platinum Events Group: What’s your favorite, can’t-work-without, item?

Deb: These two items cannot be separated: my sketchbook and ink pen.
Ray: inspiring books

Platinum Events Group: Which two people (past or present) would you like to meet over coffee and why?

Deb:  There are a lot of people I would love to sit down with, but the timing wasn’t quite right. For one, Steve Jobs – because we are aligned in design and living life fully; the second would be Filippo Brunelleschi, the genius behind the Santa Maria del Fiore, because he achieved and created in a way that was beautiful, had narrative, and solved a problem. He changed cultural history in Florence.  And my mother in her years of immigration to Canada, because she was incredible for everything she achieved.

Ray: David Kelley — he is the best designer and innovator.

Platinum Events Group: In five words how would you sum up your personality and style?

Deb: visionary, charismatic, art of love, meaning, story-teller
Ray: adventurous, studious, introspective, hungry, accountable

Platinum Events Group: What makes you unique? How do you stand out from the rest?

We care very deeply. We are passionate, and we are accountable people. When you combine a passion for excellence with a passion for art and a passion for business, it’s a formula for insanity…. and it allows for magic to happen.  Seeing our work within a greater framework, we understand that our work is both personal and historic artifact. With this kind of respect and dedication, our clients know and trust that we will do an incredible job: we are here to serve people, and to further the greater good. We are constantly innovating and challenge what often perceived as too hard or impossible to others. We figure things out and are relentless in our pursuit of greatness. When we encounter challenges, we work as a team to overcome and learn, so that we earn the right to do more great things everyday. We are in it for the long run and therefore, are we are committed.

Platinum Events Group: What is the best piece of advice you would give your clients?

Deb: That less is more. And that when you have signed the best talent in the city, to enjoy the creative process instead of trying to control it. Let us make magic.

Ray: If you think it’s expensive to hire a pro, wait until you hire an amateur.
Deb: hmmm, that’s a good one.

Platinum Events Group:  What would you like your clients to come away saying about you?

That they would recommend us to their loved ones and friends, because we transformed their story into something unforgettable. And everyone needs to experience the extraordinary in their ordinary.

And that they will be cherishing the art we created for them, for life.

Platinum Events Group: What do you think makes for a great wedding day?

The realization of how much a blessing it is to host a meaningful party with your family and friends gathered to celebrate your love, and realizing how many people love can bring together.

Real Wedding Stories: Ermelinda + Phil – Toronto, Ontario

linda phil ritz carlton toronto

We are so excited to be introducing a new blog series written by our brides and grooms called Real Wedding Stories. Here our couples will share with you their wedding planning experience and advice for all those just getting their feet wet or in the thick of it.

Without further adieu we give you our very first real wedding story post by our darling bride and newlywed Linda (aka. Ermelinda). Feel free to post your comments & questions below, Linda will be happy to hear from you.

linda phil

Hi my name is Linda! Phil and I were married on Saturday, May 25th, 2013 at St. Clare Church, and our reception was held at The Ritz-Carlton Toronto.

When planning our wedding we really wanted to ensure that our guests experience would be unforgettable, something that would be remembered for years to come.

We worked closely with Cindy Johnson the year before for my best friends wedding, so we had already seen her fantastic work first hand. We had a connection that I knew I could not find with anyone else. She understood what my vision was, she got me as person, she was my fairy godmother, and someone that I now call a dear friend. She wasn’t looking to create another wedding, but to create a personalized wedding that reflected Phil and I as a couple. Without her, my day would not have been what is was… memorable.

Some of our needs were to have a reception venue that would treat our guests to select their meal and provide variety of entertainment. We wanted our family and friends to enjoy this day from start to finish. And we really wanted to have a packed dance floor.

The whole process was an unforgettable experience. Having a wedding planner like Cindy and working with professional and amazing vendors made me truly get to enjoy every minute with very minimal stress. We were able to sit back and enjoy this once and lifetime ride.

Memories of my fairytale wedding day…

linda phil ritz carlton toronto

Walking down the aisle at our family church and seeing my future husband at the altar waiting for me was a moment I can’t even describe. All I could do was smile, because I couldn’t believe the day was finally here, that in moments I would be marrying my prince, the love of my life. I remember being so excited that I was trying to walk faster down the aisle just to get to him. I had a permanent smile, that after the ceremony I had guests coming up to me saying they had never seen a happier bride in their life. What a moment, I get teary thinking about it.

And now we PARTY! Walking into the Ritz-Carlton Ballroom for the first time… I was speechless. Literally blown away!

It was better than what I ever dreamed of. I cried and couldn’t believe my eyes. It was magical and romantic. The ballroom felt like it was designed for a royal princess. Tamara and Kevin of Fuscia Designs draped the entire room beautifully in all white and created a head table that was the star of the ballroom… Our head table was raised on a platform underneath a draped canopy & crystal chandelier. It looked like it was made for a King & Queen! And our wedding cake by Flour Confections… It was truly jaw dropping and unforgettable.

I got to marry the man of my dreams… With all my friends and family there, It doesn’t get better than that, I couldn’t even think of something that I would have changed about that day if I tried. To Phil and I it was perfect in every way.

Our wedding was the most important day of our life and we wanted it to truly represent who we were, our dreams, and vision came to life. We felt so blessed to be surrounded by friends and family who were truly happy for us and excited to be at our wedding. Without them, it could not have been a success.

linda phil ritz carlton toronto

Remember the real reason of why you are getting married… It is a day that you celebrate your commitment to each other… You become united as a family.
There are so many decisions to be made throughout the process and you begin to question yourself and stress out if you’ve made the right decision. Just remember to follow your heart and visions, this is what I kept telling myself and I’m happy I did because everything was perfect.

Enjoy every minute of your wedding day and do not worry about little details. Take it all in because it goes in a flash.

Happy Planning :)

Happy New Year + WedLuxe Wedding Show

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Well its that time again to create new year resolutions and actually follow through with them (me included!). I’ve got to say despite honest efforts to get on top of my blog its been a real challenge. It’s not that I don’t have anything to talk about its more of finding the time with no interruptions to put it all down to cyber paper. One of my 2012 goals is to keep up with my blogging. Feel free to send me reminders if I’m slipping… lol.

Lots and I mean LOTS has been happening over at the Platinum studio since before the holidays. For one our new website that’s currently being designed by Laura K Beauparlant, of Laura K Design. Our new website launch date is February 29, 2012. Our web address will stay the same the only thing different is our fresh new site design. We’ve chosen a sleek contemporary design to keep our website and blog together so no more two websites to click through. I really hope you like it! There will be more up to date content and photos of our work. Be sure to check back on February 29!

I hope you were able to make it to the WedLuxe Wedding Show this past Sunday at The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto. Both Gabi and I were there meeting all of the lovely, newly engaged couples (see above & below for pics!). If you have the current WedLuxe magazine flip to pages 78-81 (Champagne, Carats & Crystals) and 136-140 (Wedding of Grace & Ryan) to see our work. It was estimated that over 2000 people attended and at certain times of the day there was line ups outside of the hotel lobby doors. Kudos to the team at WedLuxe Magazine! This was their first ever wedding show and it was a smashing success! Some takeaways from the show, 1. September looks like the “IT” month for this year and we’re actually almost at capacity, and 2. 2013 Brides and grooms are starting early. So if you’re also a 2013 bride or groom I highly suggest you get your planning on now especially if you have specific vendors or a venue in mind.

A BIG thank you and hugs to dear friend and colleague Corina Van Sluytman of Corina V Photography for coming by and for the photographs seen here.

I think that’s about it for now. Do enjoy the shows and don’t forget to check out our new website on February 29!

Warm regards,
