Here are our most frequently asked questions when it comes to destination wedding planning, and our role as your wedding planning team. Hopefully this will provide more insight on what to expect.
What will a Destination Wedding Planner do for me?
A Destination Wedding Planner will assist you in all facets of your wedding planning. Similar to that of a wedding held at home, your destination wedding planner will research, manage logistics and budget, liaise with your suppliers/ venue, provide ideas and suggestions, and be on hand to direct all events on your wedding day.
Why do couples choose a Destination Wedding?
Our Destination Wedding couples opt for a wedding away for the simple fact that they want a different landscape with an exotic experience. Some couples have a personal connection to the location whereby they might have vacationed there in the past or shared a memorable event like a birthday or engagement.
Can we book our travel with you?
As professional Wedding Planners our main focus is you and your guests, and the creation of your wedding day events. Please note that we are not travel agents. Our past experience has shown that highly detailed tasks such as travel and event planning is best left to the appropriate professional. If you have a travel agent that you would like to work with we will gladly coordinate with them, alternatively you can choose from our preferred list.
Will you organize transportation & excursions for our wedding group?
We are fortunate to have a fantastic list of associates worldwide. We will gladly pair your group up with the appropriate destination management company (DMC) to handle all of your transportation and group excursion needs.
How far in advance should we plan our Destination Wedding?
We suggest planning no more than 12 months from your departure date, as it may take some time to choose a location and resort. This also allows you, as the host, to provide your guests with sufficient advance notice. Additionally booking in advance may offer travel incentives for early bookings.
How do I narrow down the location and resort to be married at?
During your initial consultation with us we look at past vacations, your likes and dislikes. We also discuss any locations/ properties of interest, and your budget. Once we begin working with you we will collaborate further with you, your chosen travel agent or property to review your wedding portfolio.
Will you organize and coordinate the legal requirements for getting married out of country?
Absolutely. As your Wedding Planner we will investigate all legal marriage requirements and advise you accordingly. This includes specific religious requirements. Please be advised that document translation services may be required in some countries and will be billed as a separate charge.
Is it better to have a legal or symbolic ceremony away?
We will provide all options to you so that you can make an informed decision and do what’s best for you.
Can we bring our own suppliers such as a photo, video & decorator?
Properties that we work permit outside suppliers and vendors. However not all resorts/ hotels do.
What is a site visit and do I need one?
Just like a wedding at home a site visit allows you to evaluate the venue, understand options available, how your guests will be received, and how your wedding will be managed. A site visit should take place prior to signing your wedding venue contract. When working with Platinum Events Group a site visit is mandatory. Expect 1-2 site visits depending on the complexity of your event.
Why should we book our destination wedding with Platinum Events Group?
Planning a destination wedding can be logistically challenging especially when dealing with a foreign locale, it requires a significant amount of administrative hours, coordination, and experience. We have planned countless successful destination weddings since 2004. Our mission is to make your destination wedding experience with us, simple, fun, and as worry-free as possible. We also take a limited amount of destination weddings per year to ensure quality time with our couples. We also have a Spanish-speaking Wedding Planner on staff.
Do you have a list of hotels & resorts that you work with?
Yes we do! Because not all hotels and resorts allow outside suppliers and the flexibility to customize events we have compiled a list of preferred venues at various destinations.
Will you direct the ceremony rehearsal & wedding day?
Yes… And we wouldn’t miss it for the world! Your Wedding Planner will be on location from start to finish. We arrive 1-2 days prior to the wedding day and leave 1 day after. Additional staff may be required depending on the needs of your event.
Will you take our wedding items down to our location for us?
We can certainly take your non-perishable, non-fragile, items down for you however additional costs will apply for extra baggage, couriers, and handling.
What are your fees?
Our wedding planning fees start at $8,500.00 CDN (excluding staff, travel, and applicable taxes). A formal proposal will be presented once an initial consultation has taken place and a completed questionnaire has been received.
