After visiting Grand Cayman this past February, Cindy, Rebecca and I starting thinking about the perfect location for a wedding in the Cayman Islands. There are soo many places to choose from for any wedding style. Luxurious hotels located on Seven Mile Beach, private villas in secluded Cayman Kai and Rum Point and don’t forget about the other two islands that make up the Cayman Islands, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. I’ve heard a lot about the crystal blue/turquoise water in Cayman and I wasn’t disappointed! The beaches with powder white sand weren’t bad either! Every day was a sunny day, which gave us the chance to explore the island.
One thing that surprised me about Grand Cayman was how safe and accessible everything was. You can rent a car and drive around the whole island discovering all the different attractions it has to offer. There are countless delicious restaurants and there wasn’t enough time to try all of them, one excellent reason to visit again is the food!
My ultimate Grand Cayman wedding would consist of a Welcome Party at Osetra Bay Restaurant, Wedding Ceremony and Reception at a private villa in Cayman Kai or Rum Point and a Group Outing to end the wedding festivities.

The wedding celebrations begin with a Welcome Party in one of Osetra Bay Restaurant’s two lounges. Located in the waterfront dining area of Grand Cayman, this restaurant offers a unique experience that makes you feel as if you are at a hip lounge in Miami’s South Beach. Guests enter the private candlelit lounge consisting of all white furniture for a sleek and modern look. They would be greeted with Osetra’s signature sparkling white wine that is laced with gold flakes while munching on delectable hors d’oeuvres designed for your party by the Chef. The lounge style Welcome Party allows guests to mingle and get to know each other prior to the wedding ceremony and reception. It also allows the Bride and Groom to talk to all their guests and personally thank them for making the trip to celebrate their “big day”.
It is very easy to have a wedding in Grand Cayman “off the beaten path” away from Seven Mile beach and all the other fellow tourists. There are many homes/villas available to rent and host your very private and intimate wedding ceremony and reception. Rum Point, located on the north side of the island, is famous for its island atmosphere, clear waters and white sandy beaches. An ideal location for a Destination Wedding!
The wedding day at the private villa would begin with the wedding ceremony around the pool in the late afternoon. The bride would make her way down the aisle towards her groom who is standing at a bamboo altar surrounded by local flowers. After the “I dos” as the sun is setting, guests would make their way inside the villa for a champagne toast while the finishing touches are being made on the beach for the dinner reception. Surrounded by tiki torches, guests dine on local Caymanian food, highlighting the delicious seafood found on the island, while a local band entertains the crowd with a mini Caribbean concert.
To finish off the wedding celebrations, a group outing is a great idea to have everyone get together for one last time. Stingray City or Cayman Turtle Farm is something everyone will enjoy. At Stingray City, guests stand in three foot deep water surrounded by friendly Stingrays. After experiencing the Stingrays, touching and feeding them, guests can snorkel amongst magnificent coral reefs and colourful tropical fish. An alternative would be Cayman Turtle Farm. At Cayman Turtle Farm in Boatswain Beach, guests can enjoy the 23-acre marine park while learning about the turtles and other sea creatures without getting wet! You can also take a dip in the fresh water tidal lagoon.
Just an hour from Miami, now I know why some people describe it as the “Jewel of the Caribbean”. It is very easy to get there with direct flights from Toronto on Air Canada and WestJet and perfect for all budgets. There is a great selection of hotels all over the island as well as beautiful rental houses, villas and condos. There are attractions for everyone! From Stingray City to Cayman Turtle Farm, scuba diving, fishing and horse back riding, the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Garden and the Cayman Motor Museum, everyone will leave with great memories and souvenirs!
